Thanks MLGW

Memphis Light Gas and Water has received some negative press over the past few years. There has been issues about preferential treatment, mismanagement, unwarranted cut-offs, and sky high prices. Some of these arguments were justified, some weren't. Those issues are not what my post is about. I've noticed something, something I think is worth mentioning.

Operating a nonprofit and a small business has caused me to call on MLGW on several occasions. What I've noticed is how professional they have become. The above picture is a recent incident where our outside security light that we lease from MLGW was knocked down by a drunk driver. I called our Hometown utility company and reported our down light and prepared to wait a month of Sundays before anyone would get around to it. To my surprise I received a phone call that same day from a gentleman named Ronny. The first thing he said was that he was sorry for our inconvenience. After getting the facts on what type of light we had and its location Ronny gave me his number and said, "We're going to get on this right away. If there are any problems you only need to call me. I'll make sure it gets done." The very next day we get a knock on the door. The workers were there putting up the light. They took the time to make sure this was the light we wanted and that it was pointing toward the correct area. They were polite, professional and prompt.

I have had several encounters with the utility company recently and every time I was blown away with how well they handled the situation. So to MLGW, thanks for doing such a good job.

My family lived in Houston for years when we moved to Memphis we were shocked at how low your utility rates were. Memphians don't know how good they have it.

This make me think of the time a branch fell and took out our line to the house, MLG&W came out to fix it. I asked the man if he would mind turning my cable dish he smiled and did it. That was really nice of him.

People here in memphis want everything for free. It don't matter if MLGW drop there rate in half people would still be crying. You can't make them happy so don't try.

Well, I wish that professionalism would extend to customer service workers who take my hard earned money when I pay my bill. I paid my utility bill at the drive through window in Millington and the worker did not speak at all. This woman put out the tray to take my money, pulled it back in, processed my payment and put my receipt in the drawer - all without making eye contact with me. I then thanked her, and she did not even look up at me. Unbelievable! I just gave her almost $500 and she could not even look my way!
