The Death Of Common Sense

A good friend sent me this, enjoy.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

He declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home without the burglar suing you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust, by his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility, and his son Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights; I Want It Now; Someone Else Is To Blame; and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, say a prayer. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Milton, this is so true. Much of those issues you mentioned can be blamed on one group, lawyers.

These money hungry vultures will sue for any thing.

They took the swings out of our park because the city was afraid they would be sued if a child hurt herself.

When my wife was in a car accident we got over 15 calls from lawyers and accident clinics. The lawyers wanted to sue and the clients would help prove that my wife was hurt. They even said, "You want to say she hurt her neck."

We need to put a limit on frivolous law suits.

Funny but true.

I am a teach at Hamilton High School and a parent was upset that we don't spank her child for being late for school each day. She told me, her son oversleeps everyday and she can't get him up. If the school would punish him maybe he would be on time.

I wanted to ask her if she wanted me to come over to her house each morning to wake her son up, but was afraid she would say yes.

They need to limit the amount people are awarded also. In that story about the woman that sued McDonald's for burning herself with their hot coffee, the jury awarded her over $2.5 million. That is crazy. The courts should set limits to prevent this type of hullabaloo.

The loss of common sense photo is a fitting memorial.

The black Memphis voters need common sense. These people put Ricky Peete back in office and you see what he did. These people put Willie back in office and you see what he did. These people put Janis Full-of-crap on the city council and you see what she did. These people put Ophelia Ford in office and you see what she did and on and on and on and on and on... Until the blacks voters in Memphis start realizing white people are not their biggest enemy, but incompetence is their life will not get any better. It's called Common Sense folks!

"Much of those issues you mentioned can be blamed on one group, lawyers."

I know personally three medical doctors who left the field because of the cost of liability insurance. In a few years there may not be any pediatric doctors.

GOOD PARENTS = GOOD STUDENTS = GOOD GRADUATES = GOOD ADULTS = GOOD PARENTS = GOOD...
