The More Things Change...

...the more they stay the same.

A booth at this weekend’s Texas Republican convention sold buttons asking, “If Obama Is President…Will We Still Call It The White House?”

The company that makes the buttons boasts providing “Patriotic and Republican Products.” (I wonder which one this button represents, Patriotism or Republican values?) Another button they sell features a picture of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), with the phrase: “Life’s a b**ch, don’t vote for one.”

The Republican Party could put a stop to this but as long as it generates money and support all you will hear is meaningless comments like, "That's not right," "How unfortunate," and "Tisk, tisk, tisk."

I have a white friend who is a republican. He always says, "I don't understand. Blacks are very conservative on a lot of issues: abortion, strong law enforcement and religion. They echo the Republican values. I don't understand why they don't become Republicans." To my friend, after 400 years African Americans know where they aren't welcomed.

McCain talks about a better way, but to me it still sounds like the old way.

What do you think?

You got to have a sense of humor. I'm sure it was just a joke. Reginald you had some jokes about Hillary yourself. Come on lighten up!

There is no way Obama is going to win. Say what you want but this country is not going to let a black man become president. It just not going to happen.

He should go ahead a pick Hillary for vp. She deserves it and it would at least improve his chances.

You make a fair point and I enjoy a good joke as much as the next person. My disagreement is less with the vendor who was selling these buttons but more with the RNC that hosted the convention. It was their responsibility to supervise and insure that a certain standard was maintained.

This display was unacceptable at a public event of this nature. It should not have been allowed.

For a party that is seeing its numbers declining, if the Republicans want to continue being a viable party they must work to embraced a wider audience. If that is to happen they must be more sensitive to the feeling of others.
