Is Jesus Cool?

Now let me explain what I mean by cool. I have a friend that forgets my birthdays; borrows money from me and always have excuses for not paying it back. He stayed at my house for three weeks, even though he promised to be out in two days. When he did finally leave, my house was a wreck. He emptied the fridge, broke my favorite chair, and put a dent in my car. Guess what? I’m cool with that. I accept him as he is and ask for no more.

It makes me wonder if Jesus is willing to have the same type of relationship with us. You’ve seen it. People call on Jesus all the time: Jesus please help me get that raise; Jesus heal this pain; Oh dear Jesus please let me win the lottery (ok I’ve used that one); Jesus this and Jesus that. It seems we are quick to call on the All Mighty in times of need but do we keep the Sabbath? Do we treat our fellow human beings as brothers and sisters? Do we do the right thing even if it would be easier not to?

It is important to state that I’m not here to espouse any particular religious view or faith at all. My blog is nothing more than my meandering thoughts where I often express the irony of life.

It seems to me that faith for some has taken on a Pseudo-Religious status. We shape religion around our life, not the other way around. We want the type of faith which allows us to do what we want.

All too often I see people using their religion like a cloak, when it’s cold they draw it near and tight, but when all is fair they toss it aside. This isn’t religion it’s a fashion statement. Faith shouldn’t be convenient, it should challenge you. It should set you apart and bring out the very best of you when all you want is to release the worse.

For a lot of people out there, they better hope Jesus is cool.

Jesus is cool it's often the people we associate with who aren't always so cool. I liked that picture.

I feel God is cool. He knows we are not perfect, he made us. If you try to be good, and do the right thing it will be alright.

We find many ways to characterize Jesus, but I like it best as Jesus is Holy. Jesus has told us that we too can be holy and that can only be done as Jesus Christ lives through us. What a awesome privilege to have a friend, a brother and a Heavenly Father who watches over all of us, loves and cares for all of us and daily, He gives us new mercies. That's just how much He loves us. It should be easy for us to love and obey Him. No other benefits can compare. I love Jesus and I hope that everyone who blogs here loves Jesus too.

Well said 10.55 am

God loves us if only we would open our hearts to him. But I see Mr. Milton point. People are good a "acting faithful" but they really carry themself differently. You see it all the time in church, gossiping, backstabing, and lying.

Do you remember when you first felt the love of God. I was at a turning point in my life, sort of: my daughter was a baby, and it had suddenly struck me that I had a little girl in my life that I was going to have to teach how to be a woman. Somehow this seemed to be much more daunting than raising a boy. I felt totally inadequate to the task and took the opportunity to give myself a hard time about how I had lived my life to that point. Does it not seem to be easier to see the sin in oneself when one has to think about telling one's children about it someday? Thus one night, I sat in the dark, praying about this and asking God how on earth I was going to be a good example for this child.

Then the strangest thing happened. I felt a warmth flow from the top of my head, down through my body and to my feet -- a warm, shining feeling that I knew was pure love. At about the same time I heard (or felt, almost?) a voice saying, "You are my child, and I love you, no matter what." At the same time, I knew that the most important thing I could do for my daughter was to love her, so that she could grow up to love others. That gave me the hope I needed to be a good mom to her -- hope that came to me through God's loving embrace of me, with all of my faults and foibles.

God's love is like that. For those of us who believe, God's love gives us hope that no matter how far short we fall, we can always turn to God for forgiveness and acceptance. For those who don't yet believe, the love of God can bring them to a place of faith and hope for the future. God's love is unwavering and reliable, and the hope it brings to our lives never ends

God Bless all Mothers. I am one and surely want His Blessings

That's why the church is important you see. When the truth is taught, there is an opportunity to correct our wrongs, if we will humble ourselves. We cannot discriminate who comes to the places of worship, nonbelievers and believers alike are welcomed. Jesus alone is able to change hearts.

Oh no! God loves us even when our hearts are not open to Him. He prefers that we open our hearts to Him, but nothing can separate us from the love of God.
